An incredible adventure. I approached the book with skepticism but it soon all washed away. I could taste the pasta in Italy, feel the peace in India and fall in love in Indonesia. A fabulous read.
Lethal Intent
A dreadful childhood, a wasted life and a serial killer who showed no mercy. Aileen Wournos proved to be much like her male counterparts. Sue Russell’s story-telling ability and terrific prose kept me turning page after page never wanting to put the book down.
Finger Lickin’ Fifteen
I am so ready to head out looking for trouble with Stephanie Plum. I never get tired of reading about her misadventures. In this book, she hunts down the killer of Chef Chipolte and has a close encounter with a chicken suit—and of course, with Ranger.
Los Alamos
Awesome suspense and a chilling glimpse into history with a love story thrown in for good measure. I loved reading this book.
Scarpetta
Loved the setting in Charleston, South Carolina. But, oh, am I learning to despise Benton. Why didn’t she just dump him after he faked his death?
The Glass Rainbow
What can I say? James Lee Burke is my favorite novelist and his Dave Robicheaux novels are my best loved of all his books. In this story, his daughter Alafair gets involved in the circle of friends around a serial killer.
Blindman’s Bluff
Faye Kellerman is a fabulous storyteller. This tale of the murder of a rich man, his son and some employees keeps the reader on the edge of the seat. Thank you, Faye, for another wonderful read.
The Scarecrow
At first I thought: Jack McEvoy, a newspaper guy? No Harry Bosch? I don’t know about this. Then I read the book. Wow! Connelly is fabulous. It doesn’t matter who the protagonist is, he writes circles of suspense that squeeze you like a boa constrictor.
Bloody Mary
Despite its title, this book by Carolly Erickson brings more understanding and respect for the traumatized Mary Tudor who was crowned during one of the most tumultuous periods in history.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Not only is it fascinating from the science perspective but it also gives an unvarnished look at issues of poverty and race. I could barely put it down between the first page and the last. Rebecca Skloot is incredible!
Shutter Island
A gripping read. Everything you thought you knew as fact in the first half of the book is proven false at the end. This psychological thriller turns reality on its head.
The Poisoner’s Handbook
Totally fascinating book that’s part chemistry, part history and part true crime. It’s the riveting tale of the birth of forensic medicine in the 1920’s and 30’s. But it’s not at all dated, the stories Deborah Blum tells reflect the reality of our world today.
The Woods
Harlan Coben can build suspense so well it’s breathtaking. In this book, a prosecutor and father comes to grips with his family’s past and the disappearance of his teenaged sister.
The Two Minute Rule
I didn’t know if I’d like a Robert Crais book that didn’t feature Elvis Cole. But I sure liked this one. Upon release from prison,a bank robber connects with the FBI agent who put him behind bars to get justice for his murdered son.
The Innocent
Hooked, twisted and manipulated, Coben takes you on an emotional journey with high stakes terrifying events.
The Devil’s Queen
An historical novel that grabbed me from the beginning and refused to let me go. A compelling look at one of the powerful women in history.
Madame Catherine by Irene Mahoney
After reading The Devil's Queen, I really wanted to read a history book about this fascinating woman. This book had a far less positive view of Catherine de Medici but the historical events surrounding her life were very compelling. The bloody, bitter conflict in France between the Huguenots and Catholics has many lessons for our world today. This book is out of print--you'll have to find it in a used book store as I did.
Wicked Prey
I’ll admit, I’ve never met a Lucas Davenport novel I didn’t like. and Wicked Prey is no exception, This story set in the midst of a Republican Party convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul was an exceptional one in the series.
