My Favorite Reads of 2007
The Tin Roof Blowdown
James Lee Burke entwines the lives of his fictional characters with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans. Wonderful writing and thought provoking concepts.

Nature Girl
Carl Hiaasen dishes up another ludicrous and hysterically funny tale about life in Southern Florida. I laughed my way through each page.

Water for Elephants
I didn't think I'd be interested in a book set at a circus but my mom was insistent that I read it. She said, "It has the most perfect ending possible." So I read it and she was right. Beyond that it was a fascinating, well written book. A definite must read.

Capote
This biography of Truman Capote was fascinating and sad. As a writer, many of Truman's experiences and thoughts resonated with me.

Hard Eight
I love Stephanie Plum. This particular book is my favorite in the series by Janet Evanovich so far.

Back from the Dead
A thought provoking book by Joan M. Cheever who interviewed the now freed men who were released from Death Row when the Supreme Court overturned the death penalty laws in 1972.

A Kiss Gone Bad
You gotta love beach bum turned judge Whit Mosley. What a terrific character and a fabulous story.

The Sociopath Next Door
This book will make you look at the people around you in a very different light.

Pegasus Descending
James Lee Burke is a personal favorite. It is a master wordsmith and his descriptions of settings hum with reality. This new adventure in Detective Dave Robicheaux is no exception.

Voyage of the Manteno
A mind-boggling journey on a bamboo raft in the Pacific Ocean. The book took me to places I didn't even know existed.

Running with Scissors
I resisted reading this book for a while because everybody told I should read it. I'm so glad I finally listened. It adds a new dimension to the phrase "dysfunctional family."

Gone for Good
I've never read a Harlan Coben book I didn't like but this one just knocked my socks off. A family member has to face the truth after years of believing comfortable lies.
